Classically in this ‘stacked’ pancake there are 16 layers of crepes with fillings of chocolate, walnut, and apricot jam. The layers of the crepe must be paper-thin, but stacked so high with their fillings that it looks like a layered cake. Chocolate oozes from within the layers and, on the theory that there is never too much of chocolate, chocolate sauce envelopes the cake.  But the original recipe is a secret; only the worldwide-known Gundel restaurant knows it. The restaurant serves 25,000 portions to their guests annually. This specialty is often topped by rum and flamed, although this was not specified in Károly Gunde’ls original recipe.
